NIGERIAN MUSLIM YOUTH AND SOCIAL VICES: ISLAMIC WAY FORWARD

Abstract

This paper critically examined the inclusion of Nigerian Muslim youth in relation to social vices in the present time. However, it aimed to examine the causes and effects of social vices and also to provide an Islamic way forward. The problems identified are the parental gap and cultural shift. Intrinsic and extrinsic motivational theories were adopted. The data were gathered through secondary sources and personal observations, while the data were critically, narratively, and descriptively analyzed. The findings showed some factors responsible for the involvement of Muslim youth in social vices such as poverty, unemployment, corruption, and others. The work created awareness of the evil of social vices and recommended that mosques should have standard rehabilitation centers, organize skill acquisition periodically, and that parents should give priority to the upbringing of their children.
